Newark authorities announced today that the Newark Police Division is seeking the public’s help in locating, Newark resident, **26-year-old Akim Fairley** who is wanted for beating a female and shooting at a group of men believed to have filmed yesterday’s assault.
According to witnesses, the incident started shortly afternoon when Farley was repeatedly punching a woman near the intersection of Thomas and Brunswick Streets.
Noticing a group of men in a parked car who appeared to be filming the assault with their cellphones, Fairley drew a gun and fired at the men. The men quickly drove away.
There is no evidence that the men or the vehicle was struck.
The detectives through an intense investigation, following leads and using information gathered at the scene, were able to determine that Akim Fairley was the gunman.
A warrant was issued for his arrest on charges of aggravated assault, possession of a weapon, and possession of that weapon for unlawful purposes. His bail was set at a $100,000. Police are also asking for the men who Fairley fired in the car to also contact the police.
