The third suspect being sought in connection with the fatal shooting of a Plainfield woman earlier this year has been apprehended, acting Union County Prosecutor Grace H. Park announced Wednesday.
Raequon Segers, 19, was arrested without incident late Tuesday night in Plainfield. Segers, 18-year-old Gquan Johnson, and 22-year-old Anthony Baines, all Plainfield residents, are charged with first-degree murder and two related weapons offenses in connection with the death of 24-year-old Neelega Perry.
Plainfield Police Division patrol units responding to a report of a body in the rear yard of a home on the 400 block of Spruce Street in Plainfield late on Wednesday, June 29, 2016 found Perry, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
A subsequent investigation involving the Prosecutor’s Office’s Homicide Task Force, Plainfield Police Division, Union County Sheriff’s Office Identification Unit, and Union County Police Department Ballistics Unit resulted in the three defendants being identified as suspects in the case.
Johnson was arrested late last month and Baines was arrested last week; all three defendants now are lodged in Union County Jail, with bail set at $1.5 million for Baines and Johnson and $1 million for Segers.
Convictions on charges of first-degree murder are commonly punishable by 30 years to life in state prison.
