The Linden Fire Department was holding its annual Fire Prevention Night in front of Linden City Hall when they received a call for a structure fire Friday at around 5:45pm on the 700 block of Roselle Street.

Having the ladder truck and an engine set up for display for fire prevention night, the apparatus crews swiftly packed up the equipment and responded, as did the other engines, to the fire scene that was only blocks away.

As the crews arrived they found a fully involved 2 ½ story structure with fire coming from the front of the first floor quickly spreading to the second floor and to the neighboring houses on both sides.

Fire crews quickly attacked the fire in the building and the neighboring houses to stop it from advancing to the interior of those homes.

The department advanced hoses into the fire structure pushing back the fire and stopping it from spreading further into the structure to make it possible to extinguish the main body of fire.

Mutual aid companies from Elizabeth, Roselle, Rahway, Cranford, Hillside, Union and Springfield were called in to assist at the fire scene and provide fire coverage for the rest of the town.

The fire to the main fire building was extensive causing the home to be uninhabitable.

No injuries were reported and the fire remains under investigation at this time.

The Red Cross was called in for the displaced residents of the homes.
