A shooting that killed a man inside an Irvington apartment has detectives from the Essex County Prosecutor's Office investigating.
According to authorities, at around 11:30 p.m., police were called to the Crescent Lane Housing Projects after receiving reports of an injured person inside an apartment.
Units arriving to the scene were pointed in direction of a building where after cops entered, they located the body of a man who was shot and pronounced dead at the scene.
A spokesperson for the Essex County Prosecutor's Office would not immediately identify the victim but did confirm that a homicide investigation is underway into the incident and further information will be released later today.
According to residents at the complex, deteriorating criminal conditions in and around the complex has escalated within the last few months where drug dealers and users have created an "uncomfortable living space" for residents and activity has even spread to the nearby Camptown Gardens building.
Residents said Crescent Lane Housing Project has seen little to no change in making them feel safe and secure with some of them even mentioning a 2015 shooting at the complex that injured a 6-year-old boy.
