Newark Police Recover Handgun, Arrest Man for Making Terroristic Threats

Newark Police recovered a handgun and arrested Dashawn Duncan, 23, of Newark for making terroristic threats and for gun possession on Monday.

According to authorities, at approximately 4:10 p.m., officers of the Emergency Services Unit responded to Montgomery Street near Broome Street on a call of a person being threatened with a gun.

A 41-year old male victim stated that the suspect pointed a gun at him following a verbal altercation.

Officers apprehended and arrested Duncan, who was in possession of a .22 caliber handgun, without incident.

Duncan is charged with Terroristic Threats, Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose and Certain Persons Prohibited from Weapon Possession.

These charges are merely accusations.

The suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
