The Superintendent of Schools in Elizabeth issued a statement this afternoon in response to the posts made on social media against city schools.
"In an effort to continue to keep our school community informed, please be advised that the posting by the individual referred to as Trevor Klown is not believed to be credible. I would like to thank the parents of our school community for their constant vigilance in light of recent events, said Olga Hugelmeyer, Superintendent of Schools.
The posts which surfaced today in an anonymous Facebook account with a photo of a sad clown which posted threats against public schools mentions the city "not safe" and mentions "heavy weapons to do serious damage."
The Elizabeth Police Department and the Union County Prosecutor's office have been made aware of posts.
The incident remains under investigation.
