Parking Authority Officer Thwarts Armed Robbery of Woman in Newark

A Newatk Parking Authority Officer was credited for preventing an armed robbery of a woman in the city's North Ward according to information announced in a press release sent by authorities.

Authorities said Newatk Police arrested Edwin Sanchez, 29, of Newark for a robbery on Saturday.

According to police, at approximately 4 p.m., a 24-year-old female victim was robbed of her cell phone in the area of Broadway and Crane Street.

The victim flagged down a Newark Parking Authority officer who apprehended the suspect and held him for police.

In the suspect’s attempt to break free, the screw driver he was carrying caused a minor injury to the Parking Authority officer’s arm authorities said.

Newark Police officers arrived and arrested the suspect.

Sanchez is charged with Robbery, Possession of a Weapon and Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose.

These charges are merely accusations.

The suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
