The Special Enforcement Bureau (S.E.B.) of the Newark Police Division arrested **Kamal L. Piercy, 39, of Newark,** (photo) for drug distribution and weapon possession on Wednesday, 2016.
Police said at approximately 9:30 p.m., S.E.B. officers patrolling the area of Hawthorne Avenue and Homestead Park observed what appeared to be a drug transaction conducted by Piercy and two additional individuals.
The two individuals, were identified as Kenneth V. Reaves, 35, and Jelisa M. Thompson, 24, both of Newark, were arrested at the location.
Police apprehended and arrested Piercy, who they observed toss a bag of suspected CDS (marijuana).
The Honorable Annette Scoca, J.S.C., granted a search warrant to detectives, who recovered a stolen, loaded .40 caliber handgun along with additional suspected CDS (marijuana) and drug paraphernalia at the location.
Piercy is charged with Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose, Possession of Prohibited Weapons and Devices, Possession of CDS, Distribution of CDS, Distributing CDS within 1,000-feet of a School, Distribution of CDS within 500-feet of a Public Park and Resisting Arrest.
Police said he is also charged with Receiving Stolen Property (handgun).
Reaves is charged with Loitering to Obtain or Distribute CDS.
Thompson is charged with Possession of CDS (marijuana).
These charges are merely accusations. The suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
