Newark Ironbound Carjacking, Armed Robbery Reports Under Investigation

Police in Newark's East Ward are investigating an overnight armed carjacking and an armed robbery that occurred in the city's Ironbound section.

According to initial reports, police were called to the area of New York Avenue and Pulaski Street at around midnight after receiving reports of an armed robbery in progress.

Upon officers' arrival, they located a victim who reported being robbed at gunpoint by a suspect wo approached and demanded personal possessions.

The suspect took several items from the victim before fleeing the area in a grey van according to reports.

The victim has described the suspect as a "young black male" who was wearing a grey hoodie.

The suspect is possibly wanted for carjacking the minivan (in another part of the city) that he was observed leaving the scene in.

In a separate incident, East Ward police were called to investigate a reported armed carjacking that occurred on Chestnut Street shortly before 12:30 a.m.

According to reports, police arrived to the 400 block where they were approached by the victim who reported to them that two black male suspects approached with a weapon and stole their white 2016 Mercedes GLC.

The suspects fled the scene without causing physical injuries to the victim reports said.

The investigation into both incidents are active and ongoing.
