A tip to law enforcement officials in Newark informing them of an armed man in a Newark West Ward community resulted in an arrest earlier this week.
According to police, authorities recovered a loaded .38 caliber handgun and arrested Michael C. Barker, 18, of Newark for weapon possession on Wednesday.
Police said at around 9:45 a.m., officers responded to a Crime Stoppers tip regarding a person with a gun in the area of South Munn and South Orange avenues.
Officers located the suspect and conducted a brief foot pursuit that ultimately resulted in Barkers arrest authorities said.
Barker is charged with Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, Possession of a Prohibited Weapon (defaced firearm), Possession of a Prohibited Weapons and Devices and Obstructing the Administration of the Law authorities said.
These charges are merely accusations.
The suspect presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
