Motorcyclist Badly Hurt in Garden State Parkway Crash in Cranford

A 21-year-old man was seriously injured on the Garden State Parkway Sunday evening, when police said he rear-ended a vehicle and was thrown from the motorcycle.

According to police, officers were called to the northbound side of the Garden State Parkway at mile-marker 138.3 in Cranford for a report of a crash Sunday shortly after 9:30 p.m.

The motorcyclist was air lifted to University Hospital in Newark with serious life-threatening injuries, police said.

According to police, the motorcyclist - riding a Harley Davidson motorcycle - was heading north on the Garden State Parkway, when he struck a Chrysler Pacific from behind.

The Harley Davidson overturned and the driver was ejected from the motorcycle. The motorcycle then struck a Honda Accord, while the front tire of the motorcycle became detached, crossed into the southbound lanes and struck a Mercury Villager, added police.

There were no other injuries immediately reported.

The crash is under investigation by the New Jersey State Police.
