Police took a man into custody an charged him with an armed robbery of a Newark South Ward store while they continue to search for a Irvington man that they believe is also connected to the robbery.
According to Newark Public Safety Director Anthony F. Ambrose, police arrested Shawn Ward, 45, of Newark, for an armed robbery that occurred on Wednesday in late July at the **Morel Grocery Store located at 833 South 14th Street.**
Police said, following an intense investigation, detectives determined that Ward and his accomplice, **Lewis Hankerson, 45, of Irvington,** are suspects in this robbery.
The Honorable Dion Williams, J.M.C. issued an arrest warrant for Shawn Ward, setting his bail at $150,000.00 cash.
Police said Ward was arrested yesterday (Monday) at South 12th Street near Madison Avenue.
He is charged with Robbery, Possession of a Weapon (handgun), Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose, Certain Persons Prohibited from Weapons Possession and Conspiracy.
Judge Williams also issued an arrest warrant for Lewis Hankerson, who remains at large authorities said.
Hankerson’s bail is set at $150,000.00 cash. He is charged with Robbery, Possession of a Weapon (handgun), Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose, Certain Persons Prohibited from Weapons Possession and Conspiracy.
