Police in Newark recovered a loaded 9mm handgun and arrested a 17-year old juvenile and Zaire Timberlake, 18, of Newark on Friday for drug possession.
According to authorities, at approximately 12:45 p.m., officers patrolling the area of 2nd Avenue near Mount Prospect Avenue observed what appeared to be a hand-to-hand drug transaction between the juvenile and two additional individuals.
The juvenile was in the company of Mr. Timberlake police said.
Timberlake and the juvenile were arrested without incident.
The juvenile is charged with Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, Possession of a Prohibited Weapon (defaced firearm), Possession of Controlled Dangerous Substance (CDS), Distribution of CDS and Distributing CDS within 1,000-feet of a School.
Timberlake is charged with Possession of CDS, Distribution of CDS and Distributing CDS within 1,000-feet of a School police said.
These charges are merely accusations.
The suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
