Man Arrested for Lying to Police About Shooting in Newark

Newark

Newark Police have arrested Zachary Evans and Althea Josephs-Evans of Reading, Pennsylvania, for lying to police about a shooting that occurred in Pennsylvania.

According to police, on September 16, 2016, Evans arrived at Beth Israel Hospital suffering from a non-life threatening gunshot wound. Officers responded and interviewed both Zachary Evans and Althea Josephs-Evans, who both provided false identities and reported that Evans was shot on Fayban Place in Newark.

Following an intense investigation, detectives determined both their true identities and that Evans was shot in Reading, Pennsylvania on September 15, 2016.

The investigation further revealed that Evans had an outstanding arrest warrant for Distribution of CDS in Reading, PA and is wanted by the Probation and Parole Board of Harrisburg, PA.

Police say, Zachary Evans and Althea Josephs-Evans were arrested without incident and charged with making a false report to law enforcement. Zachary was also wanted for outstanding warrants in Pennsylvania where he will be extradited.

This has been the third false incident this summer, where detectives arrested person(s) who falsely reported to have been shot in Newark and went from being a victim to a suspect.

These charges are merely accusations lodged against Evans.

He is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
