Middlesex County Prosecutor Andrew C. Carey said a motion was filed today asking an appeals court to reconsider its decision to overturn the conviction of a Plainsboro man who was found guilty in 2012 of setting up a camera to secretly view his roommate at Rutgers University.
The motion also asks the court to correct factual errors it made in reaching its decision, which was handed down on September 9, 2016.
The motion for reconsideration was filed in response to a decision by the Appellate Division of Superior Court, which ordered a new trial for Dharun Ravi and overturned his conviction on 15 counts, including charges of invasion of privacy, bias crimes, hindering his apprehension and witness tampering.
Ravi was charged after an investigation determined that he set up the camera to spy on his roommate on September 19, 2010 and September 21, 2010.
