Camden County Prosecutor Mary Eva Colalillo and Camden County Police Chief Scott Thomson announced a Camden man has been sentenced to life without parole plus a consecutive term of 66 years in prison for murder and other charges.
Steven Alicea, 23, was convicted in June on all counts of the indictment, a total of 15 counts in all, including one count of murder in the shooting death of 38-year-old Lori Breiding of Camden.
Among the other charges are three counts of aggravated sexual assault, three counts of armed robbery and two counts of witness tampering.
Alicea and co-defendant John Gonzalez, were accused of shooting Lori Breiding on the 2600 block of Cramer Street in Camden during a robbery attempt on September 30, 2011. Following the shooting, Alicea and Gonzales broke into a nearby home where they sexually assaulted another woman and robbed an elderly man at gunpoint.
During the trial, Assistant Prosecutor Peter Gallagher presented evidence and testimony showing both Gonzalez and Alicea were still wearing clothes at the second crime that matched the description of those worn by Breiding’s assailants. Both were carrying .22 caliber revolvers. Breiding was shot with a .22 caliber round. Breiding’s purse was found at the residence where the home-invasion occurred.
Alicea will be required to a life sentence without parole and then a consecutive term of 66 years (41 years before being eligible for parole).
He is also subject to Megan’s Law Requirements.
The sentence was imposed on Friday, September 9, 2016 by Superior Court Judge John Kelley.
