Police investigating a report of shots fired Wednesday evening, led to arrest of an Elizabeth man found to have a contempt warrant.
Officers were called to the 400 block of Maple Avenue Wednesday around 7:56 p.m. for a report of shots fired.
Arriving officers were told by a resident that he heard gunshots and observed two men running through backyards dressed in dark clothing.
While in the area, officers pulled over a silver Nissan Altima that was speeding away from the scene, according to police. The four occupants inside the vehicle, claimed were being shot at by two men.
Further investigation by police, led to the arrest of Isiah Matthews, 19, of Elizabeth, on a Lakewood contempt warrant. His bail was set at $200,000.
The silver Altima, which was determined to be a rental vehicle, was subsequently towed since none of the occupants were authorized to operate the vehicle, police said.
The incident remains under investigation at this time.
