Newark Police Apprehend Man Wanted for Armed Robbery of 60-Year-Old Man; Two Suspects Remain At-Large

Newark Police have arrested Tareef A. Atkins, 20, for an armed robbery on Monday according to a press release.

According to police, at approximately 5:15 p.m., officers responded to the area of South 12th Street near 14th Avenue on a call of a robbery.

Police said the victim, a 60-year old man, was threatened with a handgun by three suspects demanding money.

The suspects fled the scene, with two fleeing on foot and one on a bicycle, heading towards 14th Avenue.

Officers canvassing the area were notified that three suspects had pointed a gun at another male victim in the area of 14th Avenue and 14th Street.

Police canvassing the area located Tareef Atkins and he was arrested without incident while two additional suspects remain at large.

Atkins is charged with Robbery, Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose, Unlawful Possession of a Weapon and Conspiracy.

These charges are merely accusations. The suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
