The Newark Police Fugitive Apprehension Team, with the assistance of the division’s Emergency Response Team, arrested Alexander Marfisi, 26, of Newark, today.
Marfisi was wanted for an Aggravated Assault Against a Police Sergeant on Saturday, September 10, 2016 police said.
According to police , at approximately 2:15 a.m., a police sergeant canvassing the area of Grafton Avenue and Oraton Street heard gunshots and observed a black, 4-door Honda Civic traveling at a high rate of speed on Grafton Avenue.
The sergeant attempted a motor vehicle stop, but the suspects refused to pull the vehicle over police said.
The passenger of the suspect vehicle pointed a gun at the police sergeant before evading police in the area of Ridge Street and Ballantine Parkway.
The sergeant did not fire his weapon during the incident.
The suspect vehicle was later found in the area of Ridge Street and Elwood Avenue.
Police also recovered the handgun.
Marfisi was arrested in the area of 4th and Summer avenues.
Police said part of their ongoing investigation, detectives have determined that Adam Aquino, 27, of Newark, is also a suspect in this Aggravated Assault.
Both suspects are charged with Aggravated Assault Against a Police Officer, Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose, Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, Eluding, Conspiracy and Discharge of a Firearm.
