Two separate vehicle stops earlier this week had police in Wayne seizing more than 100 bags of heroin and arresting two men.
According to police, on Monday afternoon, officers stopped a Toyota Camry - driven by Steven C. Scalici, 21, of Warwick, N.Y. - for not having brake lights on northbound Route 23. After Scalici could not to use officers with any vehicle registration papers, the officer ran the vehicle's license plate it came back registered to a 2007 white Ford Focus.
As the officer questioned Scalici on why the plates that were supposed to be on a Ford were on this vehicle, police noticed a white substance around his nose, and a white glassine bag stamped 'RECESSION' in the front of the car.
A search turned up 96 more bags also stamped 'RECESSION'.
Scalici was subsequently
charged and released on court summonses.
The following day, officers stopped a black Saab - driven by driver Kevin McGrogan of Sussex - on the northbound highway near the Pequannock border for tailgating.
While officers spoke to McGrogan, they observed drug paraphernalia, including an uncapped hypodermic needle and seven capped needles on the floor.
A future search of the vehicle, led to a seizure of 10 glassine bags of heroin stamped 'LOYALITY', several used bags, and a full bag stamped 'ABC NEWS'.
McGrogan was taken into custody and charged with various drug offenses and tailgating.
He was released on court summonses.
