Paterson High School Football Practice Stopped After Gunfire Erupts

Paterson

City police announced that they are investigating a burst of gunfire on Market Street last night, where three parked vehicles and a deli were struck with bullets.

Although no one was wounded in the incident, they are looking into reports that the shots came from a passing vehicle.

The city’s gunfire detection system registered 11 shots, according to police.

The shooting took place about a block from Bauerle Field, where Eastside High’s football team was practicing.

Security officers who were at the field directed the coaches to end the practice for precautionary safety reasons, officials said. However, starting next week, there will be no security officers assigned to the Eastside practices because of the recent budget cuts which resulted in the elimination of about 30 percent of the district’s security staff.

The shooting remains under investigation.
