A tip from a township resident led to the arrest of two suspects charged aggravated assault among other charges.
According to authorities, yesterday around 10:22 p.m., police received a 911 call from a resident in the area of Stuyvesant Avenue and Stanley Terrace, who reported observing a silver car - reportedly occupied by at least one armed person - chasing a pedestrian in the area.
Responding officers located the vehicle parked on Pleasant Parkway and quickly apprehended the two male occupants who were walking away from the vehicle.
Shortly after, a victim was located walking out of Hollywood Cemetery, where he sought refuge from being pursued.
According to the victim, after getting off the 94 bus on Stuyvesant and Stanley, a silver car approached with two occupants. As the driver started to get out and approach him, the victim fled on foot fearing a robbery.
The silver vehicle allegedly pursued the victim and attempted to run him down with their car. The victim managed to successfully escape without injuries or loss of property.
Both occupants - later identified as (driver) Jared D. Burgess, 22, of Maplewood and (passenger) Kadeem A. Turner, 21, also of Maplewood - were charged with aggravated assault and possession of a weapon (the vehicle) for unlawful purpose. Both men are facing additional charges including attempted robbery.
A pellet gun and narcotics were seized as a result of the search warrant execution, according to police.
Their bail has been set at $100,000 dollars for both.
