Surviving Linden Officer Involved in Wrong-Way Crash, Resigns

Linden

One of the two surviving Linden officers seriously injured in the 2015 fatal wrong-way crash has resigned from the department, according to police.

Linden Capt. James Sarnicki, confirmed that earlier this month, Officer Patrik Kudlac, resigned from the department for "personal reasons." Kudlac was expected to return before the end of the year after months of rehabilitation.

According to police, on March 20, Abad drove his Honda Civic the wrong-way on the West Shore Expressway when he crashed head-on into a tractor-trailer killing two passengers and critically injuring the third passenger, Kudlac, who was a rear seat passenger of the vehicle.

Kudlac suffered serious injures that kept him in the hospital for months before being released to undergo physical therapy for his injuries.

Abad continues to recover from the March 20 crash.

The two other passengers, later identified as Linden Officer Frank Viggiano and Joseph Rodriguez were fatally injured in the crash.

According to reports, Abad’s blood-alcohol was level three times the legal limit at the time of the crash.

He was charged with aggravated vehicular homicide and other charges in a 27-count indictment earlier this year.

However, Mario Gallucci, Abad’s attorney, now claims that according to an expert, there’s medical evidence that could be interpreted to indicate Abad was drugged with GHB(known date rape drug).
