Update: Woman Seriously Injured After Being Ejected in Linden Crash

Linden

A 72-year-old Linden woman was seriously injured after she was ejected from her vehicle at the Wendy's parking lot.

Police said on Saturday, sometime around 12:16 p.m., a 72-year-old Linden woman was in her 2004 Jaguar X3 at the drive-up window at Wendy’s Restaurant, located at 709 S. Wood Avenue.

When she received her food, a drink spilled onto her seat, and the woman got out of her vehicle to clean it, apparently without putting the transmission into park.

As the vehicle began to move forward, the woman re-entered her car, and while attempting to press the brake pedal, apparently pressed the gas pedal, striking a railing at the restaurant before accelerating onto S. Wood Avenue.

The car drove across S. Wood Ave before striking a curb and ejecting the woman onto the roadway.

The woman struck her head on the curb and sustained a serious injury.

She was transported to University Hospital in Newark for treatment.

The crash is currently under investigation authorities said.

Anyone who may have witnessed the accident is asked to contact Investigator Mark Kahana at the Police Traffic Bureau at 908-474-8505.
