Newark Police arrested Casey Joseph Robinson, 20, of Newark on Thursday, August 11, 2016 for an armed robbery on Stuyvesant Avenue police said in a press release this afternoon.
According to police, at approximately 4:45 p.m. 40-year old male victim flagged down police stating that he had been robbed at gunpoint.
Officers canvassed the area and pursued the suspect, who fled on foot when he was approached by the officers. Additional officers arrived at the scene on Stuyvesant Avenue to provide support authorities said.
During the course of the police pursuit, children were present, playing in the area where the suspect fled.
A preliminary internal affairs investigation shows that at no time did officers point a weapon at any child in the area.
One child, a 10-year old boy, ran and was briefly detained and released police said.
Robinson was arrested without further incident on Stuyvesant Avenue and charged with Robbery, Possession of a Weapon and Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful purpose.
These are mere accusations lodge against Robinson. The suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
