Two Arrested, Officer Injured in Jersey City Stabbing

Jersey City police arrested two men Sunday morning after one stabbed another man in a street fight on Jordan Avenue just before 3 a.m. where a responding officers was also injured authorities said in a press release.

Authorities said the officer sustained a laceration to his arm and was treated at the Jersey City Medical Center-Barnabas Health.

The victim, a 39-year-old Jordan Avenue man, sustained non life-threatening injuries to his abdomen and was being held for observation police said.

According to authorities, when police arrived on the scene shortly before 3 a.m., they encountered the victim and a group of intoxicated individuals. One male would not stop for police and continued to come at the officers.

That individual, Jose Garcia, 42, of Fairview Avenue, had taken the knife and had the open blade in his pocket while he struggled with the officers causing the laceration to the one officer's arm.

He was charged with aggravated assault, aggravated assault on a police officer, possession of a weapon for unlawful purposes, unlawful possession of a weapon, tampering with evidence and obstruction police said.

The actor who stabbed the initial victim, Alex Gerard, 48, of Clarke Street, was charged with aggravated assault, possession of a weapon for unlawful purposes and unlawful possession of a weapon.
