TWO INDICTED IN FATAL BEATING OF SOMERSET COUNTY MAN

Plainfield

A Union County grand jury has returned indictments on charges of first-degree aggravated manslaughter against two brothers accused of fatally beating a Somerset County man in Plainfield last summer, acting Union County Prosecutor Grace H. Park announced Wednesday.   Larry Lowery, 24, of Piscataway and Michael Lowery, 30, of Plainfield are charged in connection with the death of 28-year-old James White of North Plainfield. Both defendants remain lodged in Union County Jail.   The date was July 27, 2013 when an altercation between White and the Lowery brothers turned violent, according to Union County Assistant Prosecutor Caroline Lawlor, who is prosecuting the case. Both brothers allegedly physically assaulted White, causing severe blunt-force injuries, before the pair fled the scene together, Lawlor said.   White was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead two days later. A Union County Homicide Task Force investigation quickly identified Larry and Michael Lowery as suspects, and they led detectives on a multi-state pursuit that ended with their arrests in North Carolina on August 5, 2013. Law-enforcement representatives with the U.S. Marshals, Delaware State Police, Easton (Pa.) Police Department, Smyrna (Del.) Police Department, and Fayetteville (N.C.) Police Department all assisted Union County investigators in the pursuit and arrests.
