Authorities Identify 19-Year-Old Man Killed in Plainfield

The fatal shooting of a Plainfield man is under investigation, acting Union County Prosecutor Grace H. Park announced Saturday.

The victim has been identified as 19-year-old William Coles.

Plainfield Police Division patrol units responding to a report of shots being fired on the 100 block of Plainfield Avenue shortly after 1:30 a.m. Saturday found Coles, who had sustained injuries from gunfire. He was rushed to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, where he was pronounced dead approximately an hour later.

The shooting is under active joint investigation by the Union County Homicide Task Force, Plainfield Police Division, Union County Police Department Ballistics Unit, and Union County Sheriff’s Office Identification Unit.
