Linden Man Ensues Police Chase in Stolen Motorcycle

A 30-year-old Linden man was arrested after he eluded police on a stolen motorcycle, police announced this morning.

Officers responded to the area of East Baltimore Avenue and Union Street on Sunday at 1:54 a.m. after receiving a 911 call reporting a man with a gun on a motorcycle authorities said.

Arriving in the area, officers observed a man on a red motorcycle who took off into Roselle.

Cops chased the motorcycle as it sped through residential streets, disregarding several stop signs authorities said.

The officers observed the motorcycle then pull into the driveway of a residence on the 1000 block of Harrison Avenue where the driver attempted to flee on foot.

Officers pursued him before tackling him in the rear yard, where he was placed under arrest authorities said.

Arthedly T. Awkward, 30, of Linden, was charged with eluding police, receiving stolen property, and two counts of resisting arrest according to police.

He was also charged with several motor vehicle violations both in Linden and Roselle.

The motorcycle was reported stolen in Roselle and had a fictitious Pennsylvania license plate. Officers re-traced the route in the pursuit but did not locate any firearm according to authorities.

Awkward and was transported to the Union County Jail in lieu of $75,000 bail and has a court date set for July 22nd at Union County court.
