Newark Man Indicted for Murder and Decapitation

Newark

Newark-- Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray announced today that an Essex County Grand Jury has indicted James Edwards, 57, of Newark for the murder of Pamela Davis, 50, also of Newark.

In addition to murder, the three count indictment charges Edwards with disturbing and desecrating human remains, and hindering apprehension or prosecution, according to Assistant Prosecutor Adam B. Wells, who is handling the case.

Davis disappeared on Oct. 30, 2015, and her body was discovered in a South 11th Street residence garage on Nov.r 9, 2015 with her head and neck missing. The indictment alleges that during that time Edwards murdered Davis, decapitated her, and concealed her body.

Edwards remains in custody at the Essex County Correctional Facility on $500,000 bail.

Edwards is scheduled to be arraigned on the charges in the indictment on July 25 before Honorable Ronald Wigler, the presiding Essex County Criminal Division Judge.

These are accusations. All defendants are presumed innocent unless and until they plead guilty or are found guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
