NY Man Charged with Fatal Hit-and-Run of Hoboken Man

Hoboken

Authorities today announced the arrest of a 50-year-old New York man wanted in connection with the fatal hit-and-run of a Hoboken man.

On June 25, emergency responders rushed to the 600 block of Willow Avenue shortly after 3:30 a.m., where they found the victim - later identified as 21-year-old Zackhary Simmons, of Ramsey - suffering critical injuries at that location.

Simmons was transported to Jersey City Medical Center where he was pronounced dead at 4:25 a.m.

Further investigations revealed that a large black SUV, possibly registered in New York, was seen fleeing the area after striking the victim.

Today, Police Chief Kenneth Ferrante announced that the driver involved in last month's fatal hit-and-run was identified as Mark T. Nicholas, who was taken into custody at 3:16 a.m. in Manhattan.

Authorities are working on seizing the black Cadillac Escalade involved in the crash.

Simmons was the cousin of top basketball draft pick Ben Simmons.
