New York Man Accused of Ensuing Police Pursuit in Hillside, Arrested

Police announced the arrest of a 31-year-old New York man who allegedly eluded police ultimately striking a police vehicle.

According to authorities , at approximately 10:30 p.m., officers were monitoring traffic at the intersection of Winans Avenue and Leslie Street when Alquan A Graham, 31, of Bronx, NY, was observed driving a white Lexus in the oncoming lane of traffic.

Officers attempted to stop him, but instead Graham accelerated causing police to pursue him through various streets in Hillside authorities said.

In the area of Hillside and Maple Avenues, Graham used the vehicle to strike a Hillside police vehicle.

Authorities said, at 1406 Orchard Street the Lexus’ tire popped and disabled the vehicle.

Graham then fled on foot, but was apprehended by officers in the driveway of 1419 Highland Avenue after struggling with officers.

It was later learned that Irvington police had pursued him earlier, but had terminated their pursuit.

Graham has been charged with eluding, aggravated assault on a police officer, resisting arrest and for using the Lexus as a weapon (striking the police car).

He is being held at Hillside police headquarters pending the setting of bail and transport to the Union County Jail according to authorities.
