A second-grade teacher at Dr. Lena Edwards Academic Charter School in Jersey City was indicted Tuesday after allegedly having sex with a 15-year-old student.
Lauren Mitchell, 33, was charged with endangering the welfare of a child, aggravated criminal sexual contact, sexual assault, contempt of a judicial order and official misconduct.
According to officials, between Oct. 1, 2014 and June 15, 2015, Mitchell had sex with a girl, identified only as J.J., who was 15 during that time in question.
The indictment also stated that Mitchell had sexual conversations and exchanged texts and emails with the girl.
In June, Mitchell was arrested after staff members reported her to school officials. Following her arrest, Mitchell posted $150,000 bail on the condition that she not have any contact with the girl but according to the indictment Mitchell violated the order.
