An overnight exchange of gunfire between a 36-year-old man and police resulted in the man dying, authorities confirmed today.
According to preliminary reports, police officers were walking towards a man - later identified by family as Ismael Miranda - near Summer and Oak streets sometime around 2 a.m. when he allegedly began firing a gun at them.
Miranda was wounded in the exchange of gunfire then pronounced dead.
According to police, the officers who were involved in the fatal shooting were treated at St. Joseph's Regional Medical Center for trauma.
The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
