Passaic County authorities are investigating a deadly police involved shooting that happened in the city early this morning.
Reports of shot fired sent additional officers to the area of Summer Street and Oak Street at around 1:45 a.m. where units located a male victim unconscious and unresponsive after suffering a gunshot wound at that location.
A preliminary investigation revealed that police attempted to get the victim to drop a weapon that they reportedly saw him firing in the area.
When the victim refused, at least one officer opened fire on the man according to reports.
The victim, whose identity has not been immediately released, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Passaic County Prosecutor's Office are handling the investigation.
