Police are on the search for a man accused of carjacking a vehicle out of Rahway Monday evening.
Officers responded to the 700 block of W. Grand Avenue sometime before 8:3O P.m. Monday for a report of a carjacking.
Arriving officers spoke with an 84-year-old male from Rahway, who stated he stopped on the 700 block of W. Grand Avenue to go inside a store.
The Rahway man left the vehicle - a 2005 white Ford Explorer - running with his 17-year-old granddaughter from Lexington Kentucky remained inside the vehicle. Minutes later, the granddaughter stated that the driver’s side door opened and a black male with a handgun entered the vehicle. The suspect then ordered the teen to get out of the car and she complied.
The suspect - described as black male who is approximately 6’ tall, 25-years-old and has a slender build.
He was last seen wearing a white t-shirt, dark blue jeans, and drove off with the vehicle east on W. Grand Avenue police said.
No one was injured, according to police.
