Newark Public Safety Director Anthony Ambrose announced the arrest of 23-year-old Newark resident, Daniel F. Santos for the theft of a cancer donations box from a Ferry Street bakery which received extensive news coverage.
According to authorities, police were dispatched to a business shortly before 7:30 this morning after police received a telephone call from the owner who explained that Santos was one of his employees and was now at work.
The owner and several of Santo’s co-worker recognized him as the culprit who stole the donation box after seeing his picture in the news and other media outlets. The responding officers arrested Santos without incident and charged him with theft according to authorities.
Santos’ theft of the cancer donation box on June 8th from a Ferry Street Bakery received extensive media coverage and definitely helped with his quick apprehension, stated Public Safety Director Anthony Ambrose.
"We are seeing more and more residents getting involved and helping us to quickly arrests suspects by calling in tips and reporting the suspect’s whereabouts. This greater cooperation helps all of us" Director Ambrose said.
