More than a dozen people were evacuated from an apartment building in Irvington after fire broke out Tuesday morning.
Heavy smoke and flames ignited an apartment on the upper floors of a building in the township sending firefighters to the 700 block of Chancellor Avenue at around 11 a.m.
Quick response from crews with assistance from Maplewood and Newark had firefighters evacuate more than a dozen occupants shortly before bringing the fire fourth floor apartment fire under control.
There were no injuries immediately reported.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
