Texas Man Indicted in Camden Homicide

Camden

Camden County Prosecutor Mary Eva Colalillo and Camden County Police Chief Scott Thomson report a Grand Jury has returned an indictment in connection with a 2010 Camden homicide.

Timothy Simon, 47, of Houston, Texas, was indicted on a first-degree murder count in the killing of 31-year-old Lawanda Strickland of Camden.

Simon, the victim’s then-boyfriend, is accused of manually strangling Strickland at the residence they shared. The victim was found deceased on a couch in their home on the 900 block of Jackson Street in Camden on the morning of July 10, 2010.

An investigation conducted by Cold Case Squad detectives from the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office and Camden County Police Department resulted in charges being filed against Simon in December, 2015. DNA evidence aided detectives in linking the defendant to the killing.

Simon was taken into custody by the U.S. Marshals Service on January 6 in Texas.

He was extradited to New Jersey on January 27 and is being held at the Camden County Jail.
