Middlesex County Prosecutor Andrew C. Carey and Chief John Zebrowski of the Sayreville Police Department said today that a 20-year-old borough man has been arrested and charged with fatally shooting his father.
Vishal Shah was charged on the evening of June 12, 2016 with murder in the death of his father, Pradipkum Shah, 53, who was shot in his home on June 10, 2016 and was pronounced dead at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick on June 11, 2016 at 6:25 a.m.
In addition to murder, the son was charged with hindering his apprehension by hiding the gun that was used in the shooting and was charged with unlawful possession of the weapon.
The gun since has been recovered.
The defendant is being held at the Middlesex County Adult Corrections Center in lieu of $1 million bail.
He was charged during an investigation by Detective Amy Noble of the Sayreville Police Department and Detective David Abromaitis of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office.
During the investigation it was determined that the defendant shot his father once in their home on Lakeview Drive in the Parlin section of Sayreville on June 10, 2016 at 9:43 a.m. and then hid the weapon, a .25-caliber handgun.
The investigation is active and is continuing.
