CAPTURED: Public Tips Lead to Arrest of Newark Shooting Suspect

Newark Public Safety Director Anthony Ambrose announced the arrest of Darius Mitchell, a 36-year-old Newark man, for Aggravated Assault, Possession of a gun and Possession of the gun for Unlawful Purposes.

According to Director Ambrose at approximately 3:30am, a 35-year-old Rahway man was shot on Hawkins Street. His injuries were not serious with him being treated and released from UMDNJ.

The Department’s Major Crimes Detective received a tip of Mitchell’s whereabouts and apprehended him in the vicinity of Clinton Avenue without incident.

The investigation into this incident is ongoing.

These are accusations against Mitchell. All defendants are presumed innocent unless and until they enter a guilty plea or are found guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
