Police in Newark are investigating a violent carjacking that left the victim injured in the city's North Ward last night.
Reports of a carjacking in progress sent police to the 70's block of North Hawthorne Lane (Stephen Crane Housing Complex) at around 9:15 p.m. where officers arrived to the scene and were approached by the victim who reported being attacked then carjacked by several male suspects shortly before officers arrived.
According to the victim, between 2-3 male suspects approached armed with a gun and ordered the vehicle.
The men then went on the attack using the weapon to physically strike before taking a black 2008 Mercedes Benz from the victim according to reports.
Police searched the complex for the vehicle but it is not clear if the vehicle or the suspects were ever found.
The victim's injuries were not reported as life threatening.
