Authorities Arrest Man in Connection with Newark Woman's Murder

Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray and Newark Public Safety Director Anthony F. Ambrose have announced the arrest of an individual in connection with the murder of **Sharon Hollie** in the early evening hours of May 12, 2016.

According to authorities, Hollie, 48, was found dead in her apartment in the 100 block of Norfolk Street.

An investigation by the Essex County Major Crimes Task Force, which includes detectives from the Newark Police Department, has resulted in the arrest of **Michael McCormick, age 55,** of Newark.

McCormick, who was in a relationship with Hollie, was taken into custody in the Prosecutor's Office earlier today and he has been charged with murder, unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose, according to Chief Assistant Prosecutor Thomas S. Fennelly, of the Prosecutor's Homicide Unit.

Fennelly said bail has been set at $1,000,000 by the Honorable Mark Ali, J.S.C.

**The charges against the defendant are merely accusations. He is presumed innocent until found guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.**
