A fiery accident invoking a truck and several vehicles left one man dead and police investigating the cause.
NJ State Police spokesman Brian Polite said that around 1:30 AM this morning, a crash on the NJ Turnpike northbound left a man fatally injured.
Spokesman Brian Polite said that a 2001 GMC Safari van begin to have car troubles, possibly relating to a flat tire, begin to drive at a slow speed, when a tractor tailor came over the hillcrest and didn't notice the disable vehicle.
The driver of the truck attempted to maneuver from striking the van, lost control, striking the left rear side of the van causing the truck to hit the guard rail and overturn. The truck then burst into flames according to Brian Polite.
Polite said that a third vehicle, described as a blue BMW SUV, was struck by debris from the truck.
The driver of the van was taken to Trinitas Hospital with no apparent injuries.
Polite identified the driver of truck as, John Visconti, whose age is around 48 years old of Rosenhayne NJ, was pronounced dead at the scene.
A medical examination is pending to determine the cause of death.
The entire portion of the Turnpike northbound near mile marker 96.5 was shut down for approximately 45 minutes until the fire was extinguished. At least one lane remained closed earlier this morning as investigations continued.
