A shooting that left a man dead in Newark has authorities searching for a killer and ending the week with a total of six homicide investigations.
Multiple rounds of gunfire were heard by residents in the 200 block of Mount Prospect Street at around 10:30 p.m. prompting them to call 911 where officers rushed to the scene to find a male victim suffering serious injuries from apparent gunfire.
EMS arrived to make the transport to University Hospital where the unidentified victim was pronounced dead a short time later.
Investigators searched the area for evidence and a possible suspect.
The latest fatal shooting ends the week with a total of six homicide investigations for the Essex County Prosecutors Office. There has been a total of nine people shot in Newark since Thursday April 28, 2016 to Thursday May 6, 2016 (Total of two overnight... we will report the second overnight shooting later).

There were a total of two hospital shooting "walk-ins" earlier this week. A male victim walked into East Orange General Hospital suffering a gunshot wound where he told authorities that he was shot in Newark and waited about three days before seeking medical attention.
A male victim walked into Beth Israel Hospital Hospital earlier in the week after suffering a non-life threatening gunshot injury. The victim told police that he was shot at an unconfirmed location in Newark. Either of the walk-ins were not immediately confirmed to be Newark shootings.
