A reputed female Bloods street gang member was arraigned today on multiple drug and weapons charges following her arrest on Monday by Essex County sheriff’s detectives.
Sheriff Armando Fontoura stated that detectives from his department’s Bureau of Narcotics staged a plainclothes surveillance operation at the intersection of Frelinghuysen Avenue and Foster Street yesterday afternoon in response to numerous complaints of open-air drug trafficking in the area.
“A four-door silver sedan, driven by a male, soon pulled up and parked at the intersection,” Sheriff Fontoura said. “A suspect, later identified as Shahadah Robinson, 22 of Irvington, immediately approached the vehicle and after a brief conversation with the driver exchanged items from the fanny pack around her waist for cash.”
The male drove away from the scene and the sheriff’s BON detectives moved in to further investigate.
“Our officers discovered a loaded .32 caliber Smith & Wesson revolver and six heroin-filled glassine envelops, stamped ‘FACEBOOK’ in green ink, in Robinson’s fanny pack,” Fontoura added. “As the suspect was being placed under arrest she threatened to kill the arresting officer.”
Robinson was charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance, possession of CDS with intent to distribute, possession of CDS with intent to distribute within 500 feet of the Seth Boyden public housing complex, the unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon while committing a CDS crime and terrorist threats to kill a law enforcement officer.
A canvass of the area for the male suspect was unsuccessful.
At today’s arraignment, Robinson was ordered held at the Essex County jail in lieu of $50,000 cash bond only.
