Carjacking, Armed Robbery Reported in Newark's East Ward

Police are investigating a reported carjacking and armed robbery that happened in the city's East Ward overnight.

Cops were called to the 50's block of Richards Street at around 4:30 a.m. on reports of a carjacking in progress that happened in the Ironbound community.

Units arriving to the scene were met by the victim who reported being forced from a vehicle at strong arm by two black males shortly before officers arrived.

The suspects took the victim's black Escalade that reportedly had Connecticut license plate when it was taken.

There were no physical injuries immediately reported.

In a separate incident, police are looking for two Hispanic male suspects who they said were responsible for an armed robbery of a man early this morning in the East Ward.

The incident was reported to police at around 4:30 a.m. in the 100 block of Jabez Street where the victim told authorities that he was robbed via strong arm by the suspects.

The men took personal possessions before they fled the scene according to reports.

There were no physical injuries reported.
