Victim Stabbed in Newark's South Ward Assisted by Firefighters

Authorities in Newark are investigating a stabbing that left a man injured in the city's South Ward earlier today.

Police were called to the firehouse on Frelinghuysen Avenue on reports of a person stabbed a little after noon today.

Units arrived to the scene where firefighters were providing some assistance to the victim who reported to police that he was in the area of Ludlow and Wharton Street when a male suspect began to attack him and eventually stabbed him.

Polie canvassed the area for a possible suspect while EMS transported the victim to the hospital where he needed several stitches to the head.

**UPDATE 4/16/2016 The victim suffered a slash injury to the face that required a large amount of stitches. The man was treated and released from the hospital. He broke a plexiglass window on the firehouse attempting to get help. The incident is not reported to be random. **

There were no arrests made.
