Police are investigating a pedestrian strike that left a man dead in the city's East Ward on Wednesday afternoon.
Emergency responders rushed to the area of Jefferson Street and Malvern Street shortly before 11:45 a.m. where they found Duarte Ramos, 61, of Newark seriously injured after being struck by an Enterprise rental company van at that location.
According to family member, Ramos was rushed to University Hospital where he was pronounced dead at around 8 p.m. Wednesday night.
The driver of a white Enterprise rental van that struck Ramos, stayed at the scene and was interrogated by authorities but not immediately charged.
Authorities are continuing to investigate.
