Authorities Identify Man Shot Dead in Newark

Newark – Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray and Newark Public Safety Director Anthony F. Ambrose announced today that the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force and the Newark Police Department are investigating a double shooting that left one person dead and another injured.

Authorities said at approximately 11 p.m. yesterday, two people were discovered in a car suffering from gunshot wounds in the vicinity of Elizabeth Avenue and Hunter Street.

Authorities identified the male victim as Jamal McBride, 25, of Newark and was pronounced dead at the scene at 11:25 p.m.

A second victim, a female, sustained multiple gun shot wounds. She was transported to University Hospital where she remains in stable condition authorities said.

Her name is not being released.

There is no other information is available at this time. The investigation is active and ongoing.

There were no arrests have been made.
